Who doesn’t like watching a good car crash, especially when no injuries are involved? The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has launched a much improved, updated version of their video footage from vehicle safety crash tests.
A significant portion of the IIHS’ recent front and side crash test library is available for your viewing pleasure and neatly arranged on the Consumer Reports’ website. Cars are searchable by make and model.
This is a good way to get a look at how SUVs perform in crash test. A model that makes the IIHS’ safest SUVs list must score at least a “Good” on all crash tests.
The IIHS tests vehicles in a variety of different crash scenarios such as front end, front end off-center, side impact, rear impact, and rollover collisions.
The video below is an IIHS video of the 2010-2011 Hyundai Tucson in a front end off-center crash test. The Tucson is on the IIHS’ list of 2011 Top Safety Picks.
