Furious 7, the seventh installment in highly successful ‘The Fast and the Furious’ movie franchise, has been shattering box office records. It has become the first movie to reach one billion dollars worldwide, surpassing Avatar, and it’s also the highest grossing movie ever in China.
While Fast & Furious movies are known more for street racing cars, a number of SUV models have appeared in the movies, including one prominent vehicle in Furious 7. The model is known as the 2013 Jeep Wrangler ‘Fast and Furious’ Edition is surprisingly both fast and furious.
A Very Big, Heavily Modified Jeep
This heavily modified Wrangler has a 3.6-liter engine that produces a prodigious 570 horsepower and 837 pound feet of torque. The armored Wrangler with bigger wheels, a beefed up suspension, and hardcore body mods needs all that toque as it appears in one of the movie’s first big action scenes.
The special edition Wrangler makes a big entrance on screen as it is parachuted down from a transport plane and provides the protection and heft needed for an intricate heist against the heavy duty firepower.
‘Fast & Furious 6’ SUVs
In ‘Fast & Furious 6’, Dwayne Johnson’s character drives a really big armored rig, an International MXT-MVA, which is fitting for his character. The MXT stands for Military Extreme Truck and it’s extensively modified for military duty.
A 2012 Land Rover Range Rover appears in the film. Not much on fast, but big on style and luxury, the Range Rover allows you to carry a larger group in the utmost comfort and make an impression. A Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV is also seen in the film.
‘Fast Five’ SUVs
In ‘Fast Five’, a Tank SUV appeared, which was a vehicle made by Armet Armored Vehicles Inc. The vehicle as a V-10 6.7-liter engine with 400 horsepower. Its built on a Ford-F550 Super Duty 4 Platform and weighs about 14,000 pounds, more than four times your typical midsize SUV weight.
Another prodigious SUV that appears in the film is a Gurkha F5. This SUV is not just for rugged duty, it’s outfitted with luxury features such as a custom interiors, a video game console and DVD/Blu-Ray player. You can purchase a Gurkha F5 of your own for about $450,000, as NBA player J.R. Smith reportedly did.
A 1968 International Harvester Scout also is seen in Fast Five. In the fourth film, ‘Fast & Furious’, a 1989 Chevrolet Suburban is used as a henchmen commuter.
While Fast & Furious movies may be more synonymous with suped-up imports, American muscle cars, and super cars, SUVs are increasingly playing a role in the films as they have evolved into heist movies. Sometimes an armored, go-anywhere crushing cars or walls SUV or a luxury hauler are called into duty. We shall see which SUV models appear in the film series’ 8th installment, which is due out in April 2017.
